Get to know Ra!

Raeisha Williams

My very existence as a black woman was shaped by the protective and loving arms of my Grandmother Adelia Nevils, my Mother Rosemary Nevils-Williams, my Auntie Paula Munson, and the many community mothers and fathers that were in my life.

I am Raeisha Williams, a friend, sister, auntie, daughter, community advocate, gardener, leader, and change maker. Many of you know me as the latter. What you may not know is that I am a former Ward 2 Coordinator for the Mayor’s Office of Washington, DC., that I graduated from Howard University with a B.A. in Mass Communications, that I  worked in television for the first half of my professional career, or that I have a strong background in nonprofits.

After completing my degree at Howard University, I had successful careers as a communications specialist with television networks including BET, TV One, and CNN. I worked as a publicist, marketing consultant, and community coordinator for nonprofits such as The ARC, DC Promise Neighborhood, and Metropolitan Regional Arts Council.

I have worked as a community advocate for small social justice groups for over 10 years and recently completed a full term as the Communications Director for the NAACP Minneapolis Branch. I am the owner of a PR and marketing consulting firm with clients ranging from professional athletes like Ray Allen to powerhouse music producer Drumma Boy. I recently created a public health campaign for NorthPoint Health and Wellness & Clearway MN "A Beautiful Lie, About Menthol Tobacco".

I learned from my education and diverse career experiences that public service is my passion. Serving my community is my destiny. My career in politics started while attending North High School as one of the inaugural members of Mayor Sharon Sayles Belton’s "Mayor Youth Council". There I learned first hand what diplomacy and political engagement entailed.

My greatest aspiration was my decision to step forward and work with my community as the next City Council for Ward 5 in North Minneapolis. I take on this task with great pride, seriousness, and a deep understanding of the responsibility ahead.
